Kendamil Canada Product Update

What markets does this notice relate to?

This notice is only relevant to Canadian customers of Costco Canada. No other Canadian products are affected. This notice is not related to the United States, and no US product is in any way implicated in this notice.

What action is being taken?
Safety-based regulatory guidance for cereulide testing has developed in recent months. Cereulide is a naturally occurring substance that can cause short term stomach upset, and has been recently associated with potential presence in ARA oil, a source of Omega 6. During a short-term supply disruption from our official supplier, our partner facility briefly sourced an alternative ARA oil during a single day's production of two batches of Kendamil Costco Canada 1049G.

In February 2026, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) introduced updated strict safety guidance for trace cereulide levels in infant formula, which has been adopted across European states, as well as internationally, including the UK and Switzerland. This guidance is a safety level set by independent scientists and designed specifically for infants. The strict limits set fall well below the levels at which any short term stomach upset would be expected to occur.

All Kendamil product test results, including for these specific batches, are compliant with the latest European guidance levels published this month, representing the strictest defined standards globally.

Health Canada has applied a different approach, one not based on defined product testing results or the latest European standards being adopted internationally. In line with this approach, and out of an abundance of care, Kendal Nutricare Canada is voluntarily withdrawing two batches of Kendamil Costco Classic First Infant Formula 1049g, 897274 and 888632. Health Canada has requested this precautionary withdrawal of any batches whose ingredient source could in theory be impacted. This is irrespective of lab testing results for the specific batches that demonstrate compliance with strict safety limits set by the scientific community and now being adopted internationally.

We want to reassure you that all other Kendamil products can continue to be used as normal. This notice is to make sure parents have all the information they need.

Will there be supply issues?

No. These two batches represent a very small proportion of our production in 2025, and normal availability of Kendamil products continues. All other batches of Kendamil are unimpacted by this action.

Are other Kendamil products affected?

This withdrawal only affects two specific batches of Kendamil Costco Canada Classic First Infant Milk 1049g, 897274 and 888632, both produced in May 2025, from the Canadian market. All other Kendamil products can continue to be used as normal.

I am in the USA, is my product impacted?

The US market is entirely unimpacted by this voluntary withdrawal. The ingredient source which is implicated in this withdrawal has never been used in any US products, nor does the factory which manufactured these batches supply the US market.

I am outside of Canada, is my product impacted?

We fully understand your concern and want to reassure you that no Kendamil products are affected by this withdrawal.
