Supporting families today and for generations to come

Over the past three years, thousands and thousands of US families -  many of whom first discovered Kendamil during the 2022 infant formula crisis - have trusted us with something incredibly precious: feeding their babies. We’re deeply grateful for that trust.

When we entered the U.S. as the first international responder to the crisis, we did so under Enforcement Discretion in partnership with the White House and the FDA - a temporary pathway created to bring safe, high-quality formulas into the country during a time of urgent need. Since then, a tremendous amount of work has been happening behind the scenes with one simple goal: making sure Kendamil can remain a long-term choice for families in the United States for generations to come.

As part of that process, we completed clinical growth studies and went through a comprehensive review covering nutrition, manufacturing, quality testing, labeling, and ongoing monitoring, in partnership with FDA. This work ensures Kendamil meets all U.S. infant formula requirements, while continuing to be made in Europe using the same nutritional principles, ingredients, and care we’ve followed for more than 60 years.

We’re proud to share that this work is now complete, and Kendamil is confirmed as a permanent, long-term brand for families in the United States.

What’s changing with the Kendamil Goat infant formula?

These updates reflect regulatory requirements needed to support permanent availability in the U.S, while continuing to deliver European-made, whole-milk-based nutrition to support your baby’s growth.

What you may notice on the label

You may notice small differences in how ingredients appear on the label, such as a change in order or how an ingredient is named. These updates reflect U.S. labeling requirements and updated ingredient levels, but do not change the nutritional quality of the formula. The ingredients themselves remain the same, continuing to provide the nourishment your little one needs.

Ingredient Updates

Calcium lactate was removed. Your baby continues to receive the same amount of calcium, now provided through well-established calcium sources such as calcium citrate and calcium phosphate, used across infant formulas in the U.S. and Europe.

L-carnitine is no longer listed as a separate ingredient on the label. This is because it is no longer added separately. The amount of L-carnitine in the formula has not changed. It continues to be naturally provided by the dairy ingredients in the recipe, just as before.

The source of Vitamin C in this formula was updated from sodium ascorbate to ascorbic acid. Both forms provide Vitamin C in the same way and support the same nutritional role in infant formula.

This update was made to align with U.S. regulatory conventions while continuing to meet European-quality formulation principles. Using ascorbic acid allows us to provide Vitamin C while reducing the amount of added sodium in the formula.

The iron source was updated to iron pyrophosphate, which is the preferred source used across the Kendamil range. This is also a change we are making to our UK Kendamil Goat recipe.

Mixed tocopherols are antioxidants already present in our oil blends to protect freshness. They are now consistently listed on the label to meet U.S. disclosure requirements.

How Vitamins & Minerals are declared on the label

You may notice small changes in how some vitamins and minerals are listed on the Nutrition Facts Panel. These updates reflect how nutrient values are declared on U.S. labels - not changes to the nutrition quality your baby receives.

Because certain vitamins and minerals can naturally change over time, U.S. labels are required to show values that are guaranteed through the end of the product’s shelf life. As a result, a number on the label may appear different, even though these differences do not reflect a reduction in the nutrition your baby receives. Importantly, your baby continues to receive all the essential vitamins and minerals they need to support healthy growth.

What you might notice at home

Most Parents won’t notice any difference. If you do, it would be very minor—such as a small change in appearance, smell, or how the formula mixes. Parents may notice very small differences in the formula’s appearance, smell, or how it mixes. These differences are normal, expected, and were carefully reviewed by our Quality and R&D teams, who bring over 100 years of combined experience in infant nutrition.

Slightly more golden in color.

May appear slightly more golden than previous bottles.

Taste may be milder and creamier, with fewer strong “goat” notes.

You may notice a small update to our preparation instructions. Previously, we recommended letting boiled water cool for 30 minutes before mixing. We now recommend allowing boiled water to cool for 5 minutes before preparation.

 How to transition

Most babies will continue feeding as usual. Some babies may benefit from a gradual transition due to normal sensory differences, while others can switch right away — both approaches are safe. We’re here to support whichever option works best for your baby.

What you might notice during a transition:

Temporary changes in poop color, consistency, or frequency. Slightly more gas or spit-up. Mild fussiness during or after feeds.

These are common and typically settle within 7–14 days as your baby adjusts.

Switching right away: Prepare bottles as directed on the can, starting with boiled water that has been left to cool for 5 minutes before preparation.

Switching gradually: Follow our simple 5-day transition guide below.

Tip: If you combination feed, it’s fine to mix breast milk with formula. We recommend preparing each formula separately and avoiding mixing two different formulas in the same bottle.

FAQ's

Our updated formula continues to meet all infant nutrition requirements and supports healthy growth. Some nutritional values on label have been adjusted to align to U.S. regulatory requirements, but rest assured our formulas remain nutritionally complete for infants. Your baby will continue to receive the essential calories, fats, proteins, vitamins, and minerals needed for development, as you’d expect from Kendamil.

You may notice a small update to our preparation instructions. Previously, we recommended letting boiled water cool for 30 minutes before mixing. We now recommend allowing boiled water to cool for 5 minutes before preparation.

Before feeding, test a few drops on the inside of your wrist. The milk should feel lukewarm, close to body temperature - never hot or uncomfortable on your skin -  to help prevent burns.

This update was made to align with common bottle-preparation practices in the U.S. This change does not reflect any change to the quality, safety, or nutrition of our formula. Kendamil continues to be made to the same high standards and remains safe and nutritionally complete when prepared as directed.

Always carefully follow the preparation instructions and feeding guide printed on your can and use only the scoop provided to measure each feed.

When Kendamil first came to the U.S. during the 2022 infant formula shortage, we did so under a temporary FDA pathway called Enforcement Discretion. As we now proudly transition to permanent approved status , allowing us to support long-term availability for U.S. families, we have made planned updates to align with FDA regulations, the same regulations that govern all formulas available within the United States.

No - rest assured, Kendamil infant formulas remain nutritionally complete for infants. While some minor ingredients and label declarations have been updated per FDA regulations, we expect most babies will continue feeding as usual, with parents not noticing any difference. Such minor changes, based on local market requirements, is nothing new for Kendamil and indeed, there are several minor differences across different countries we supply, be it the UK, Canada or Ireland. Rest assured, our core formulation principles that matter so much to us (and you) remain unchanged.

No. This recipe update is not related to recent out-of-stock periods. The good news is that moving to a permanent U.S. recipe is an important first step in expanding our manufacturing capacity. This helps us strengthen long-term supply and bring more Kendamil Goat to families in the U.S. gradually and over time.

Absolutely!. Our entire Kendamil infant formula and toddler drink range remains European-made using whole milk from grass-fed cows and goats.

Kendamil continues to be made in Europe using our longstanding European manufacturing and quality standards. While the permanent recipe ensures we also comply with U.S. regulatory requirements, it is produced to the same globally-recognized quality and safety standards that have always guided Kendamil. We continue to voluntarily meet European quality testing standards, alongside those required by FDA.

The U.S. and UK products are formulated to meet the specific regulatory requirements of each market. While they are not identical, both are made in Europe using Kendamil’s signature whole-milk recipe and longstanding manufacturing standards.

One key difference is how formulas are regulated by age. In the UK, infant formula is offered in stages (such as 0–6 months and 6–12 months), while in the U.S. a single infant formula is designed to meet the nutritional needs of babies from birth through 12 months. The U.S. formula is specifically designed, tested, and supported in line with U.S. feeding guidance, and it is the version we recommend for families in the U.S.

No. These updates were made to ensure compliance with local regulations that enable permanent availability for families, never to lower quality. Kendamil continues to be proudly crafted in Europe using our established standards and signature whole-milk recipe. Our singular focus throughout this process was safeguarding our quality and principles while ensuring long-term access for U.S. families.

Certainly not. These updates were not driven by cost (nor do the minor changes have any cost impact). As a family-owned company, our decisions are always guided by long-term quality and care, never short-term savings. The changes were part of a planned process to move from temporary approval to permanent availability in the U.S., ensuring Kendamil can reliably support U.S. families for years to come.

No. This transition is part of a broader move to permanent recipes across our infant formula range. While this page focuses on Kendamil Goat, similar updates will be implemented across our infant formulas over time. We’ll share clear, product-specific information as each update becomes available.

We expect most babies will transition easily, based on our extensive testing and feedback sessions. Some babies may notice a slightly different taste or texture, just as with any formula batch change. If your baby is sensitive, a gradual switch can help.

Small sensory differences are expected with any updated recipe, no matter how minor. These do not affect the safety, nutrition, or quality of the formula.

Yes. It’s fine to mix old and new batches during the transition. If you choose to do so, please prepare each recipe according to the instructions on its own can before combining, rather than mixing two dry powders together. This can help ensure bottles are prepared safely and consistently.

This is uncommon, but if you have concerns, contact our customer support team or your healthcare provider. We're here to help troubleshoot.
